The Tunisian left-back had been linked with a move to one of the Gulf leagues, but he took to social media on Sunday to reaffirm his commitment to Ahly.

"An unforgettable season for the club, their fans, and I hope we can repeat this success in the new season," Maaloul wrote on his Instagram account.

The 33-year-old defender enjoyed the most successful season of his career as he helped Ahly win five titles, including the African Champions League, the Egyptian Premier League, the Egypt Cup, and two Egyptian Super Cups. He scored 11 goals and provided 16 assists across all competitions.

"We started the season with a lot of ambitions, and we did succeed in achieving them all. Everyone was up to the responsibility, and everyone gave their utmost for crowning the club with titles and bringing joy to the fans of the great Ahly," Maaloul added.

The Carthage Eagle player joined Ahly in 2016, coming from Club Sfaxien, and in December 2021 signed a new two-year deal that will keep him at the club until summer 2024.

Over his seven-year spell, he has won five Egyptian Premier League titles, three CAF Champions League titles, two CAF Super Cup titles, three Egyptian Cup titles, four Egyptian Super Cup titles, and two bronze medals at the FIFA Club World Cup. He was also named in the CAF Team of the Year in 2017.

Maaloul's decision comes as a major relief for Ahly and coach Marcel Koller, who sees him as a key player in his formation.
