These CAPMAS findings were released in conjunction with the annual celebration of Youth International Day on 12 August.

According to CAPMAS, young people between the age of 18 to 29, millennial and post-millennial, number 9.2 million or 21 percent of the country's 104-million population, with 50.5 percent males and 49.5 percent females.

Separate ways!

The divorce rate among married couples in this age group remained largely unchanged in 2022 compared to 2021, CAPMAS found.

The percentage of divorce certificates issued to married males in the age group 18-29 made up 16.1 percent of all divorce certificates issued in 2022.

The percentage of divorce certificates issued to married females in the group made up 37.8 percent of all divorce certificates issued in 2022.

In a bigger context, divorce rates among recently-wed couples soared in 2022, according to recent government figures.

Indeed, 25 out of every 100 new marriages end in a divorce, with the highest rate of divorce among the age group 20-30, according to the government.

Divorces across all age groups increased by 14.7 percent in 2021 over the figures of 2020, according to previous CAPMAS reports.

Some experts have attributed the increase in divorce rates in Egypt to a variety of factors, including wrong partner selection, failure in communication, and stressful economic conditions.

More men at work!

CAPMAS found that young people in the 18-29 years old age group made up 39.2 percent of the country's 30-million-strong labour force in 2022.

A CAPMAS labour survey for that year found that 61.5 percent of males and 14.4 percent of females in the age group had a job.

However, unemployment among youth in this age group recorded 16.9 percent in 2022, a 1.5 increase compared to 2021, according to the survey.

Everyone online all the time!

CAPMAS also found that 89 percent of young people in the age group 18-29 use the internet to do all sorts of things in life.

Indeed, 75 percent in this age group use the internet to seek information about goods and services online, and 52.6 percent use the internet to search for information on health-related issues and healthcare services.

Additionally, CAPMAS found that 51.5 percent in this age group obtain information about government services electronically.
