Egypt skipper Mohamed Salah will be rested by coach Rui Vitoria in the first game of September’s camp against Ethiopia scheduled on 8 September, the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) announced in a statement on Saturday.

“The coach decided not to depend on Salah in Ethiopia game especially as the team already ensured qualification for the African Cup of Nations finals,” read the EFA statement.

On 20 August, Vitoria has called up the Liverpool star winger alongside other eight foreign-based players for the camp that will kick off on Monday.

During the camp, the Pharaohs will be playing two games; the first against Ethiopia on 8 September in the final round of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, before a friendly against Tunisia on 12 September.

“Salah will play the Tunisia game normally,” the EFA statement added.

The Egyptians clinched their spot in the African Cup of Nations during the previous round, leading the group with 12 points, three points ahead of second-placed Guinea, who secured the group's second qualifying ticket.

The 31-year old Salah has scored one goal in three league games played so far with the English club this season.

Salah has been surrounded by speculation recently about a possible move to Ittihad Jeddah in Saudi Arabia.

Under Vitoria's guidance, Egypt has won all seven games, scoring 17 goals and conceding only two. The Pharaohs also topped Group D in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, securing a place in the 2023 cup to be played in Cote D'Ivoire.
