Zamalek should pay $1.8 million to lift transfer ban: EFA

Zamalek should pay $1.8 million in fines for several sides to lift the club’s current transfer ban, Egyptian Football Association (EFA) Executive Director Walid El-Attar said on Monday.

The Cairo giants were suspended from registering new players three times during the current summer transfer window until they meet their financial obligations to former players.

“FIFA sent three letters to the EFA to confirm that Zamalek is serving a transfer ban. The club needs to pay $1.8 million to solve the issue,” El-Attar told OnTime Sports TV channel.

Zamalek suffered several financial crunches during the past season. The club is currently led by an interim committee after the resignation of the elected board due to the crisis.

The club has to pay late dues for several parties, including their former Ghanaian player Benjamin Acheampong, Portuguese club Sporting Lisbon for the transfer of Mahmoud Shikabala back in 2015, and finally the sponsorship rights of signing Beninese forward Samson Akinyoola.

Zamalek came in third in the Egyptian Premier League with 60 points, 23 points behind leaders Ahly.
