The artefacts traveling across the Atlantic for a display to an American audience will come from the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir, the Coptic Museum, and the Saint Catherine Monastery, according to a statement released by the Cabinet.

The first of the two Africa & Byzantium exhibitions will be held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art (Met) in New York from 13 November 2023 to 3 March 2024.

The second will be held at the Cleveland Museum of Art in Ohio from 14 April 2024 to 21 July 2024.

Bringing together a wide range of artworks, the Africa & Byzantium exhibition will shed new light on the artistic achievements of medieval Africa, according to the Met's website.

The exhibition will also demonstrate how the African continent contributed to the development of the pre-modern world.

It will do so by offering a complete history of the vibrant multiethnic societies of North and East Africa that shaped the artistic, economic, and cultural life of the Byzantium era and beyond.

The exhibition will recount Africa’s central role in international networks of trade and cultural exchange, added the Met.
