Egypt offers condolences to Libya for Storm Daniel victims

Egypt’s President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi expressed his sincere condolences to Libya for the victims of Storm Daniel, which hit the country on Sunday.

In a statement on his social media accounts on Monday, El-Sisi said that Egypt's government and people stand in solidarity with their Libyan brothers in this time of grief.

“I wish a speedy recovery for the injured, and I hope that the crisis will pass quickly with Libyans standing together in unity,” the Egyptian President said in his short statement.

The Egyptian Foreign Ministry also issued a statement expressing Egypt’s sincere condolences to Libya for the victims of Storm Daniel.

The statement said that Egypt offers its sincere condolences to the families of the victims of this tragedy and wishes a speedy recovery for the injured. It also expressed Egypt's solidarity with the people of Libya and its readiness to provide all sorts of help and assistance.

The coastal city of Derna in eastern Libya and surrounding areas were devastated by floods late Sunday caused by torrential rains brought by Storm Daniel.

In its latest update on the number of victims, the Libyan authorities stated that at least 2,000 people were killed in Derna alone.
