Egypt declares three-day mourning for victims of humanitarian disasters in Morocco and Libya

Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi declared on Tuesday a three-day mourning in the country in solidarity with the victims of humanitarian disasters in Morocco and Libya.

President El-Sisi also expressed his condolences for the victims of the earthquake in Morocco and the storm in Libya, according to a statement by Presidential Spokesperson Ahmed Fahmy.

Furthermore, El-Sisi directed the Armed Forces to provide humanitarian aid, including relief teams, rescue equipment, and shelter camps, in cooperation and coordination with Libyan and Moroccan authorities.

The Libyan coastal city of Derna and other areas in the east of the country have been devastated by Storm Daniel since Sunday. 

Medical sources in Libya estimated that the death toll in the eastern region reached 2,800 people, according to the Anadolu news agency.  

Hundreds of homes were washed away in flooding triggered by Daniel and many thousands of residents were displaced, according to various reports.

Meanwhile, the death toll from the devastating earthquake that rocked Morocco climbed to over 2,600 people, according to the Moroccan interior ministry.
