The president also directed the preparation of a Mistral aircraft carrier – one of the country's Armed Forces assets – to be stationed off the Libyan coast. The aircraft will serve as a field hospital for those afflicted by the disaster in Libya.

The step aims to "ease the burden on our brothers in Libya," according to a statement by Egyptian Presidential Spokesperson Ahmed Fahmy on Wednesday.

El-Sisi also inspected earlier today the lining-up of support and relief equipment heading to Libya, directing the relief teams to do whatever it takes to mitigate the effects of the humanitarian catastrophe.

The death toll in Libya could exceed 5,000 after Storm Daniel brought devastating floods to the country's east on Sunday.

According to Libyan officials in Tobruk, the bodies of 145 Egyptians who died due to the storm's impact were handed over to Egypt on Wednesday. This is the first group of deceased Egyptians to arrive from Libya officially.

Egypt dispatched three military planes to Libya carrying humanitarian aid, including medications and medical supplies.

The planes also carried tents, search and rescue teams, relief vehicles, and work groups from the Egyptian Red Crescent.

Furthermore, Egypt announced Wednesday earmarking EGP 10 million (around $300,000) in assistance to Libya. The money is part of a package totalling EGP 30 million (approximately $1 million) that Egypt has allocated to assist, in addition to Libya, earthquake-hit Morocco and floods-affected Slovenia.

These efforts reflect Egypt's commitment to extending humanitarian aid to nations affected by catastrophic natural events.
