Market watch: Egypt’s bourse makes history on Thursday as benchmark exceeds 20k points

The Egyptian Exchange's (EGX) main index broke its 20,000-point target on Thursday, while in the gold market, the price of a golden pound coin increased by EGP 200.

Stock market
 

The benchmark index EGX30 crowned its outstanding performance in recent sessions with a 1.43 percent jump that led the index to break a new record at 20,080.6 points.

The EGX70 index rose 0.76 percent to end at 3,828.64 points, near its all-time high.

The positive momentum also pushed up the EGX100 by 0.91 percent to hit 5,675.19 points.

The market capitalization gained EGP 15 billion, reaching nearly EGP 1,357 billion.

The biggest gainer for the day was Egyptian Media Production City, jumping 12.03 percent to close at EGP 13.13 per share.

The bourse's biggest loser for the day was Alexandria Containers and Goods. The stock fell 2.61 percent to close at EGP 32.1 per share.

Gold prices
 

A gram of 24-karat gold stood at EGP 2,554 for purchase, up EGP 52 from yesterday.

A gram of 21-karat gold was valued at EGP 2,235, EGP 45 higher.

The price of 18-carat gold reached EGP 1,915 per gram, increasing EGP 38.

The gold pound settled at EGP 17,880, growing by EGP 200.

Currencies
 

With a buy rate of EGP 30.83 and a sell rate of EGP 30.96, the official rate between the EGP and USD remains stable.

The euro is valued at EGP 32.80 for purchasing and EGP 32.95 for selling.

The Saudi riyal is priced at EGP 8.22 for buying and EGP 8.25 for selling.
