The hackathon brings together the most talented and innovative students, graduates, tech enthusiasts, coders, artists, and designers to produce solutions for new challenges posed by NASA in connection to the environment, earth, and space.

Since its launch in 2015, the NASA Space Apps Cairo Challenge has been ranked among the most successful city hackathons worldwide since it has recorded the largest number of registered applicants globally and produced record-breaking on-site solutions.

In August 2019, Space Apps Cairo awarded its 2018 winning team a grant, sponsored by the U.S. embassy in Cairo, to visit the U.S. Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville, Alabama, to attend a three-day space camp.

The event is organized by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and Young Professionals Egypt in partnership with the U.S. Embassy as the Main Sponsor and the National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Egypt (NTRA) as the Main Partner.

The event is also held under the auspices of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research in strategic partnership with the Innovators Support Fund (ISF).
