Shoukry's remarks came during a meeting with Israel's Foreign Minister, Eli Cohen, held on the sidelines of the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA 78) in New York.

Shoukry stressed to Cohen that escalation could lead to a cycle of violence that would further distance the two sides from achieving peace and implementing the two-state solution.

Furthermore, the Egyptian FM reiterated to Cohen that comprehensive and just peace must be based on restoring Palestinian rights and establishing an independent Palestinian state on the 1967 borders with its capital in East Jerusalem.

He also reaffirmed Egypt's commitment to continuing all efforts to encourage the parties to resume negotiations to reach a peaceful settlement.

Moreover, the two ministers discussed a range of issues, including trade, investment, and energy cooperation, particularly under the umbrella of the East Mediterranean Gas Forum.
