President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi said on Tuesday that Egyptian universities need to produce more graduates that satisfy the needs of the modern job market.

The president made his remarks while meeting with heads of universities comprising the Supreme Universities Council to discuss the quality and competitiveness of Egypt’s higher education.

The president noted that the job market does not need a large number of students graduating from faculties such as law, commerce, and humanities each year.

Meanwhile, he said, other sectors like digitalization, face a shortage of workers.

“The job opportunities for many graduates in certain majors are non-existent or limited, while the job market inside and outside Egypt needs hundreds of thousands of people in the field of digitization,” El-Sisi said.

The president met with the university heads during a visit to Suez Canal University to celebrate the highest-scoring students at Egyptian universities.

During the meeting, El-Sisi also highlighted the state’s efforts over the past decade in establishing national universities and partnering with international universities.

El-Sisi was also briefed on the performance of Egyptian universities and the progress they have achieved in international indexes over the past period.
