President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi appointed veteran diplomat El-Hamami as Egypt’s ambassador to Ankara in July following the decision of both countries to upgrade diplomatic relations to the ambassadorial level, ending a 10-year rift.

Earlier in September, El-Sisi met his Turkish counterpart Erdogan for the first time in an extended meeting on the sidelines of the 18th G20 Summit, which was held in India from 9-10 September.

During their meeting, the two leaders agreed to strengthen bilateral cooperation, building on the progress made in the last few months.
