Having started their title defense campaign with a comfortable 3-0 win over Saint George in the first leg last week, the Cairo giants continued their impressive form to secure a comprehensive aggregate victory.
Mohamed 'Afsha' Magdi opened the scoring just ten minutes into the match with a stunning free-kick from outside the box. He later added a second goal in the 39th minute, courtesy of a brilliant assist from Karim El Debes.
Mahmoud 'Kahraba' Abdel-Moneim also made his mark on the game, converting a penalty kick in the 34th minute and netting his second goal in the 63rd minute following a superb assist from newcomer Emam Ashour.
The Ethiopian side had requested both legs to be played in Cairo, and it was on their home turf that Ahly showcased their dominance.
With 22 minutes remaining, Ahly coach Marcel Koller made substitutions to provide rest to his regular squad, bringing on Karim Fouad and Yasser Ibrahim.
Shortly after, the Swiss coach made a double substitution, introducing Taher Mohamed Taher and talented South African winger Percy Tau.
Despite missing key players such as newly signed French striker Anthony Modeste, veteran midfielder Amr El-Sulaya, and defender Mahmoud Metwally due to injuries, Ahly displayed their strength and depth.
Joining their Egyptian counterparts Pyramids FC in the group stage, Ahly's victory further solidifies their status as one of the tournament's favorites.
Pyramids FC secured their place with an impressive 6-1 win over APR FC of Rwanda earlier on Friday.
The Red Devils clinched their 11th African Champions League title last season, defeating Wydad Athletic Club 3-2 on aggregate in the final, and they are determined to continue their reign as the continent's top club.
