Ahly and Pyramids FC face challenging groups in 2023/24 African Champions League

Egyptian powerhouses Ahly and Pyramids FC have been drawn into difficult groups for the 2023/24 African Champions League.

The draw for the group stage of this esteemed continental tournament took place on Friday in Johannesburg.

As the title holders, Ahly have been placed in Group D, where they will face tough competition from CR Belouizdad of Algeria, Young Africans of Tanzania, and Ghana's Medeama SC.

Pyramids FC, making their debut in the competition, find themselves in Group A alongside South Africa's Mamelodi Sundowns, TP Mazembe of DR Congo, and Mauritania's FC Nouadhibou.

According to the Confederation of African Football (CAF), the group stage matches are scheduled to kick off between November 24 and 26, with the final round set to conclude between March 1 and 3.

The first leg of the highly anticipated Champions League final is scheduled to take place between May 17 and 19, followed by the second leg between May 24 and 26.

Ahly began their campaign to defend their title with a commanding 3-0 victory over Saint George in the first leg, securing a place in the group stage with an impressive 4-0 win in the second leg.

Meanwhile, Pyramids FC earned their spot in the group stage after a goalless draw in the first leg against Rwanda's APR, followed by an outstanding 6-1 triumph in the second leg of the round of 32.
