"Israeli artillery is in the process of striking the area of Lebanon from which a shot was fired," said a statement, which was issued shortly before 7:30 am (0430 GMT).
“The IDF has been taking preparational measures for this type of possibility and will continue to operate in all regions and at any time necessary to ensure the safety of the Israeli civilians.”it added.
Hezbollah has claimed responsibility for a series of bombings targeting Israeli sites in the occupied Shebaa Farms region.
In a statement released by the group, they attributed the attacks to the "Imad Mughniyeh" group and specified that the targeted sites included Al-Radar, Zabdin, and Weisat Al-Alam.
The statement further emphasized that these actions were undertaken in solidarity with the Palestinian people and various "resistance factions." Additionally, Hezbollah expressed that these operations were part of their ongoing efforts to secure the liberation of the remaining occupied Lebanese territories.
Earlier, the Israeli army radio reported mortar shells fired from Lebanon towards Northern Israel on Sunday. Shells fired from Lebanon hit an Israeli military site in Shebaa Farms, Reuters reported citing three security sources.
Israeli artillery shelling targeted the vicinity of Kafar Shuba in southern Lebanon according to an Al Arabiya correspondent, who said that no casualties were reported on the Lebanese side after Israeli artillery shelling.
Israel has requested the closure of tourist facilities on the border with Lebanon, accoridng to the correspondent.
