An unknown number of Americans are among the people that Hamas took as it attacked Israel from the Gaza Strip, the Israeli ambassador to the United States said Sunday.
The diplomat, Michael Herzog, was asked on CBS News if there were Americans among the soldiers and civilians that the Palestinian militant group captured in southern Israel.
"I understand there are, but I don't have details," he said.
Also, several Germans, who are also Israeli nationals, were among those captured by Hamas militants, German ministerial sources said on Sunday.
The sources did not specify the numbers involved. "As far as we know, they are all Israeli nationals as well as Germans", they added.
