Yamama is the third to submit candidacy, joining President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi and Farid Zahran, head of the opposition Social Democratic Party.

 He secured the endorsements required to join the election race from MPs.

According to the Egyptian constitution, candidates must secure endorsements from at least 20 MPs from the House of Representatives or 25,000 citizens from at least 15 governorates, with a minimum of 1,000 endorsements from each governorate.

El-Sisi, whose current term ends in April, submitted his candidacy papers on Saturday supported by over 1.1 million endorsements.

Other political figures announced their intention to run in the elections, including Fouad Badrawi, a former MP and member of the Wafd Party's Higher Council; Hazem Omar, head of the People's Republican Party; Ahmed El-Fadaly, chairman of the Democratic Peace Party; Ahmed Tantawi, a former MP and former head of the leftist Karama (Dignity) Party; Gameela Ismail, chairwoman of the liberal Dostour (Constitution) Party.

Candidacy applications are submitted from 5-14 October.

Incomplete submissions will be disqualified and an initial list of candidates will be announced on 16 October.

Voting in Egypt will take place 10-12 December, with Egyptians abroad casting their votes 1-3 December.

The NEA will announce the final result on 18 December if no run-off is required.

This will be the fourth presidential election since the 25 January uprising in 2011. The latest presidential election was held in 2018.
