The summit comes as Israel continues bombarding the 2.3 million people in the Gaza Strip amid a deteriorating humanitarian situation.
A four-way summit — scheduled for Wednesday between Egypt, Jordan, Palestine, and the US — was canceled after the Israeli airstrikes on Al-Ahli Baptist Hospital in Gaza killed at least 470 people.
Egypt is also preparing a summit on Gaza on Saturday, inviting regional and international partners to participate in a bid to de-escalate the situation and protect civilians in Gaza.
Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Sameh Shoukry said the call for the summit reflects the seriousness of the situation in the Gaza Strip, revealing that several heads of state and government confirmed their attendance.
He added, in TV remarks on Wednesday, that the summit not only aims to de-escalate the situation in Gaza but also to reach a ceasefire and solve the decades-old conflict through the two-state solution.
