The Egyptian surveillance tower was “accidentally” hit by shell fragments from an Israeli tank amid the ongoing clashes around the Gaza Strip, the spokesman said.

He said that the Egyptian personnel sustained minor injuries.

“The Israeli side immediately expressed regret for the unintentional incident,” Abdel-Hafez said, noting that the incident is under investigation.

The shelling took place at an Egyptian army post in Karm Abu Salem (Kerem Shalom) near the border with the Gaza Strip, according to the Israeli army.

Avichay Adraee, an Israeli army spokesman, said the incident is also under investigation from the Israeli side.
