The National Liberation Movement Fatah called for the strike amid escalating confrontations with the Israeli occupation army to defend the rights of the Palestinian people, including their freedom and independence.
The strike significantly impacted various aspects of daily life, leading to the closure of universities, banks, and shops.
This decision comes in response to the recent deadly Israeli airstrike in the densely populated Jabalia refugee camp in the northern Gaza Strip, which resulted in the death or injury of approximately 400 people, according to the Palestinian Health Ministry.
Earlier, Hamas called on all Palestinians to stand against the Israeli occupation forces, accusing them of sadistically documenting the harsh treatment of people in the West Bank.
In the ongoing 26-day war, Israeli occupation forces have continued their intensive bombardment of Gaza, resulting in the tragic loss of over 8,610 Palestinian lives, including 3,542 children and 2,187 women, while injuring more than 23,000.
Meanwhile, the Palestinian Health Ministry reports at least 111 dead and 1,950 wounded in the occupied West Bank since October 7th.
On Wednesday, Israeli occupation forces detained 66 Palestinians during home raids in various Palestinian territories, according to reports from WAFA. This included 15 detentions in Jerusalem, 14 in Bethlehem, 11 in Jenin, 5 in Hebron, 3 in Qalqilya, 4 in the Ramallah district, 2 in Tulkarm, and 1 in Nablus.
The Palestinian Prisoners' Club, on October 27, released figures indicating that Israel has detained 1,215 Palestinians in the West Bank since the beginning of the Gaza conflict. Notably, a quarter of those detained in the West Bank are minors and elderly individuals, as highlighted by the Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs Authority, as cited by WAFA.
Furthermore, the authority revealed that Israeli forces have arrested 6,500 Palestinians since the start of 2023.
According to the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), since the onset of the Gaza conflict last month, over 607 people, with more than half of them being children, have been displaced within the West Bank.
The Washington Post reported that Israeli settlers have attacked Palestinians in the West Bank on at least 100 different occasions and in at least 62 locations from October 7th to 22nd, with the numbers likely to be higher in the weeks that followed.
