In response to a question during a press briefing about the possibility of U.S. troops being deployed to stabilize the situation or act as peacekeepers in Gaza after Hamas, the U.S. National Security Council Coordinator for Strategic Communications, John Kirby, stated, "there’s no plans or intention to put U.S. military troops on the ground in Gaza now or in the future. But we are talking to our partners about what post-conflict Gaza should look like."

"And clearly, if that means some sort of international presence, then that’s something we’re talking about. But there’s been no decisions about that at this point," he added.

Speaking at a US Senate hearing, Secretary of State Antony Blinken said earlier that there could be no return to Hamas' rule of Gaza.

Blinken also ruled out "a permanent Israeli occupation of Gaza", which Israel also says it doesn’t want.

"At some point, what would make the most sense is for an effective and revitalized Palestinian Authority to have governance and ultimately security responsibility for Gaza." he said.

“And if you can’t, then there are other temporary arrangements that may involve a number of other countries in the region. It may involve international agencies that would help provide for both security and governance,” Blinken said.
