Madbouly met in Cairo with over 20 international firms in the transport, logistics, and shipping sectors, according to a Cabinet statement.

The meeting participants discussed potential projects localizing transport in Egypt, he told journalists at the TransMEA trade fair.

Those present included chairmen and CEOs from Siemens, Hutchison, Alstom, DP World and Abu Dhabi Ports among other logistics and shipping giants.

Madbouly reiterated Egypt’s interest in partnering with the private sector on transport initiatives, stressing that they are best placed to operate maritime ports or dry ports.

The government has pushed to boost the private sector’s role in the economy, including transport services. In December, President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi approved a plan outlining moves to scale back state involvement in some sectors such as transportation.
