According to the Egyptian Foreign Ministry, Shoukry emphasized that the deteriorating conditions in Gaza demand a major humanitarian response appropriate in scale and scope.

The minister also highlighted Egypt's diligent efforts to deliver aid to Gaza, both from Egypt and around the world, via the Rafah border crossing.

He emphasized that Egypt's political leadership considers the needs of Palestinians caught up in the current crisis at the highest level of priority.

In a related context, Shoukry mentioned the logistical difficulties imposed by the Israeli side, hindering the access of humanitarian aid to Gaza, including the frequent bombardment of the Palestinian side of the Rafah border crossing.

From her side, the WFP's Executive Director McCain expressed appreciation for Egypt's humanitarian work and coordination with United Nations organizations working in this field.

She noted that the WFP will continue coordinating with the Egyptian authorities on all its programs in Egypt, in line with Egypt's vision for achieving food security and sustainable development.

McCain also met with President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi on Saturday, where they discussed the deteriorating situation in Gaza as well as cooperation between Egypt and the WFP.

On Sunday afternoon, Cindy McCain said on her official X account that it was “ great to be on the ground in Egypt with the incredible Egyptian Red Crescent team”.

“This amazing team has been working around the clock to get lifesaving supplies like food, water, and medicine to families in Gaza. With needs skyrocketing, WFP stands ready to support.” She said.
