Greek Prime Minister Antonis Samaras said on Friday that his debt-wracked country was not asking for more cash to solve its problems, but required more "breathing space" to carry out cuts and reforms.

"We don't want more aid ... but we need breathing space," Samaras said after talks here with German Chancellor Angela Merkel, adding that an assessment of Greece's reform progress would soon show Athens would produce "results".
