Market watch: Egyptian bourse hits historic highs on Wednesday; 24 gold surpasses EGP 3,000/gram

The Egyptian Exchange (EGX) ended in the green on Wednesday with the EGX30 approaching its historic high, while gold prices jumped and the 24-carat gold hit a new summit at EGP 3,109 per gram.

Stock market
 

The EGX30 index rose by 1.02 percent, settling at 24,138.8 points.

Meanwhile, the EGX70 index inched higher by 0.57 percent, ending at 4,819.12 points.

The EGX100 index increased by 0.77 percent to close at 7,081.51 points.

The market capitalization gained around EGP 15 billion, ending at around EGP 1,632 billion.

Grand Investment Capital was the biggest winner in the market for the second session in a row, surging 19.83 percent to close at EGP 8.34 per share.

The greatest loser in the market was Themar, whose stock fell 18.21 percent to EGP 4.58 per share.

Gold purchase prices
 

The purchase price of 24-carat gold reached EGP 3,109 per gram, EGP 92 higher than on Tuesday.

The 21-carat gold price increased by EGP 80 to EGP 2,720 per gram.

The 18-carat gold price edged EGP 68 higher to EGP 2,331 per gram.

The price of the gold pound coin rose by EGP 640, recording EGP 21,760 for purchase.

Currencies
 

With a buy rate of EGP 30.8306 and a sell rate of EGP 30.9586, the official EGP/USD exchange rate remains stable.

The euro is valued at EGP 33.3484 for purchase and EGP 33.5741 for sale.

The Saudi riyal is priced at EGP 8.2197 to buy and EGP 8.2543 to sell.
