"Thee Israeli artillery are still at the gates of the hospital and they have full control over the facility," an Al Jazeera journalist explained.
Israeli forces had pushed into Gaza City's Al-Shifa hospital in the early hours of the morning, raising fears for the safety of thousands of patients, staff and displaced civilians trapped inside.
The UN estimates there are at least 2,300 people inside Al-Shifa.
The Israeli soldiers moved systematically through various buildings within al-Shifa hospital, thoroughly searching for any signs of military presence within the complex.
During Wednesday's attack, troops had interrogated dozens of civilians, some of whom were stripped to their underwear, said the journalist in contact with AFP.
Israeli forces have imposed restrictions, preventing both entry to and exit from the hospital premises.
For days, Israeli airstrikes rained down on the outskirts of the hospital which is located on the western side of Gaza City.
This comes as Israel is carrying out a massive air and ground invasion that has so far killed more than 11,300 people, more than two-thirds of them women and children, Gaza's health ministry says.
