More than half of wounded Palestinians being treated in Egypt are children

Egyptian Minister of Health and Population Khaled Abdel-Ghaffar revealed on Sunday that a majority of the injured Palestinians arriving in Egypt from Gaza for treatment are children, while approximately 43 percent are women.

The minister made his remarks during a video conference discussing the Israeli war on Gaza with EU Ambassador to Egypt Christian Berger, Egypt’s Ambassador to Belgium Badr Abdel-Aati, and a number of EU officials.

Abdel-Ghaffar began the session by outlining the ministry’s plans to provide medical care to wounded Palestinians.

The plan includes initial assessment, ambulance transport to hospitals, precise surgical interventions for critical cases, and psychological support.

The health ministry has stationed over 150 fully equipped ambulances at the Rafah border crossing, the ministry’s spokesman said.

Furthermore, 35 ambulances with incubators are on standby to evacuate premature infants.

Infants who have already been evacuated are now being treated at 24 hospitals across Egypt, and all are in stable condition.

Berger expressed gratitude to the Egyptian government for its efforts in supporting to the people of Gaza, praising the health ministry for providing medical services to Gaza’s wounded.

He also affirmed the EU's readiness to provide humanitarian and medical aid to support Egypt's healthcare system in delivering the best medical services to the wounded.

Abdel-Aati underscored the urgent need to expedite medical aid deliveries to Gaza as well as ensure the availability of essential supplies and equipment to provide care in Egyptian hospitals.
