During a press conference at the Union for the Mediterranean summit, held in Barcelona and chaired by the EU's top foreign policy official Josep Borrell, Safadi said that according to international law, Israel's actions in  Gaza constitute genocide. 

According to the Palestinian health ministry in Gaza, at least 15,000 were killed since 7 October, including at least 6150 children and 4000 women.

Safadi, along with other participants in the summit, also called for extending the current truce in Gaza to allow relief organizations to maintain the flow of humanitarian supplies. 

He also expressed regret that some countries participating in the summit refused to support the call for extending the truce. 

Earlier on Monday, Jordanian PM Bisher Khasawneh underlined Jordan's stance in favour of humanitarian truces as a means of establishing a long-lasting ceasefire to facilitate political negotiations that would lead to a two-state solution and the realization of the Palestinian people's right to create an independent state.

Since the beginning of Israel's war on Gaza, the Egyptian Red Crescent, through local and international donations, has been able to deliver 30,000 tons of aid to the Palestinian Red Crescent and the UNRWA in Gaza.

According to Khasawneh, Crown Prince Al-Hussein bin Abdullah II was the highest-ranking Arab official present at the Rafah border to receive the Jordanian medical aid convoy and oversee the preparations for establishing a Jordanian field hospital in Gaza in Khan Yunis.
