El-Sisi also reviewed Egypt's efforts to achieve a ceasefire in the besieged strip, urging the international community to assume its role in this regard, according to Egypt's Presidential Spokesman Counselor Ahmed Fahmy.

During the meeting which touched on regional developments, including the ongoing escalation in the Gaza Strip, El-Sisi highlighted Egypt's intensive efforts to deliver assistance and humanitarian aid to the strip.

El-Sisi emphasized the importance of international action to push forward the two-state solution and establish an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital, considering this the way to realize regional peace and security.

The Cypriot president praised the huge efforts exerted by Egypt towards de-escalation, asserting his country's keenness on continued coordination in this regard, especially under a joint vision for achieving regional peace.

Bilateral relations

During the meeting, which was at Al-Ittihadiya Palace, both leaders also discussed means of promoting bilateral ties, as well as other key files, topped by the energy file.

In April, El-Sisi and Christodoulides agreed to launch a joint cooperation forum between both countries, including the electricity connection project, the transfer of Cypriot gas to two desalination plants in Egypt, and exploring new frameworks for clean and renewable energy projects.

During Christodoulides’ first visit to a foreign capital since assuming his post in February, he praised the two countries’ successful partnership, which he will be seeking as president to boost, describing it as one that is based on mutual respect.
