“This resolution paves the way for the Somali government to continue its efforts in combating terrorism and achieving stability,” said the statement.

The foreign ministry added that Egypt reaffirms its steadfast support for the efforts of the Federal Government of Somalia to restore security and stability and enhance development in its sisterly country.

The United Nations Security Council imposed an arms embargo on Somalia in January 1992 in response to the ongoing conflict and proliferation of militant groups in the country.

In February 2007, the embargo was amended to permit arms supplies to Somali government forces. After 31 years, the embargo on Somalia was lifted on Saturday.
