He confirmed that the upcoming inaugural edition of the new-format Egyptian Super Cup will exclusively use Egyptian referees, forgoing the involvement of foreign officials.
Speaking on television early on Friday, Pereira stated, "I am confident in the Egyptian referees, myself, and my colleagues, so it would not be logical to hire foreign referees for the new-format Super Cup tournament with the participation of four teams."
He emphasized the importance of using Egyptian referees in domestic games, as they often officiate in the final stages of African and international tournaments.
"I am confident that the Egyptian referees will deliver a superb performance in the upcoming tournament," Pereira added.
The first edition of the new-format Egyptian Super Cup is scheduled to take place from 23 to 29 December in the United Arab Emirates.
The participating teams in this edition will include Egyptian champions Ahly, domestic league runners-up Pyramids FC, League Cup winners Ceramica Cleopatra, and domestic league fourth-placed Modern Future FC.
This season, the EFA has adopted a new approach by appointing foreign experts of high repute to oversee the Referees' Committee, aiming to develop the skills of Egyptian officials.
Pereira, a former Portuguese referee, previously held positions as head of the Greek refereeing department in August 2017 and the Russian refereeing department in September 2021, resigning from that position in March 2022.
