The calculator will be available to MDP’s customers, offering them a simple and convenient way to measure their estimated carbon footprint generated by card purchases.

The Mastercard Carbon Calculator will provide users with their estimated carbon emissions to help drive more informed purchasing decisions and offer tips about living more sustainably.

“As our customers respond to increased consumer desire to make more eco-friendly choices, we are making a firm commitment to reducing our environmental footprint. Every single transaction we can make towards a greener world, matters,” said the CEO of MDP Ahmed Nafie.

“As part of our commitment to driving our business toward net zero emissions by 2040, we hope to expand the benefits of this practical tool to other partners in Egypt and the wider region,” Country Manager of Egypt at Mastercard Inji Borai commented.

The launch of the Carbon Calculator aligns with Egypt's Sustainable Development Strategy - Vision 2030, to pursue sustainable economic development and encourage individuals and businesses to move towards a more sustainable way of life.

Egypt aims in the coming years to reduce carbon emissions and promote the use of renewable and alternative energy sources, including green hydrogen, as part of its National Climate Strategy 2050.

As part of this strategy, Egypt aims to produce green hydrogen at the lowest cost worldwide by 2050 at $1.7 per kg and capture 8 percent of the global hydrogen market, according to previous statements by government officials.
