The price hikes come on the heels of previous decisions by Egyptian telecommunication companies to raise prices for mobile recharge plans.
The surge in prices of Telecom Egypt's landline internet plans includes the following.
The 140 GB plan, previously priced at EGP 120, now costs EGP 160, excluding tax, representing an increase of 33.3 percent.
The 200 GB plan's subscription value has risen from EGP 170 to EGP 225, while the 250 GB plan now stands at EGP 280, up from EGP 210.
The price of the 400 GB plan has increased to EGP 440 from EGP 340, and the 600 GB plan now costs EGP 650, compared to the previous price of EGP 500.
Furthermore, the terabyte plan has been raised to EGP 1,050, a jump from EGP 800.
Telecom Egypt stated that these price increases are accompanied by the provision of free browsing for educational and government service websites.
Similarly, other telecommunications providers in Egypt, like Etisalat, Vodafone, and Orange, have also decided to raise the prices of their landline internet plans, some sources told Ahram Online.
These companies are implementing price increases ranging from 20 to 30 percent, the sources added.
Vodafone Egypt, for example, has increased the prices of all its landline internet plans by EGP 50 per plan, they confirmed.
This recent surge in prices is not limited to landline internet plans alone. Towards the end of last week, Egyptian telecommunications companies collectively decided to raise the prices of mobile recharge cards and certain prepaid plans by 10-15 percent.
These increases came into effect on 28 December 2023, impacting mobile phone users across Egypt.
In November 2023, the prices of wired and wireless communication services increased by 1.8 percent compared to the same period in 2022, according to data released by the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS).
