The 27-year-old will replace Ahly's midfielder Ahmed 'Koka' Nabil, who was dropped from the squad earlier on Wednesday due to injury.
"The Pharaohs' technical staff has decided to call up Mohanad Lasheen to join the squad participating in the 2024 Africa Cup of Nations, following Ahmed Nabil Koka's injury," read a statement on the Egyptian Football Association's official website.
Lasheen has earned 10 international caps, including two appearances in the 2021 AFCON, where the Pharaohs finished as the competition's runner-up.
Egypt have been drawn into Group B of AFCON 2023, alongside Ghana, Mozambique, and Cape Verde.
The Pharaohs will play a friendly match against Tanzania on January 7th in Cairo before heading to Cote d'Ivoire.
