The popular Egyptian band Black Theama released the new single Alam Gharib (A Strange World) on their YouTube channel on Thursday.

Alam Gharib

The single is the first of five new songs that will be released consecutively until the month of Ramadan (early March) forming a mini-album, Amir Salah El-Din, Black Theama's founder, told Ahram Online.

"A strange world is all coming to slaughter you, and there is no loved one ..." are the opening lyrics of the new single by one of Egypt's leading trios, Salah El-Din (also known as Amir Salah), Ahmed Bahr, and Mohamed Abdo.

Coming after several months of hiatus in new compositions, the song opens the year 2024 with a sombre note, as it looks deep into the pains that people carry with them, in a world where money is prioritized by our "weak souls."

The music and lyrics of the song were written by Mohamed Abdo, while the visuals accompanying the music video on YouTube present a man who continues to fall on the red background. The visuals and animation were created by Nour El-Deen Mokhtar.

The new composition opens a new year, which also marks the band's 20th anniversary of the trio who launched their activities in 2004 and with time established themselves as one of the most popular bands in Egypt, with more than 2 million followers on the Facebook page.

Performing on many stages in Egypt and in the region to thousands of their fans, Black Theama were nominated at the 2013 World Music Awards for Best Group, Best Live Act, Best Song, and Best Video Clip for the song Fi Belad Al-Ayy Haga (In the Country of Anything).

With the band members coming from Aswan, it is only natural that their compositions and arrangements create an interesting fusion between Nubian, Sudanese, and other African influences, alongside reggae, hip-hop, and R&B.
