According to Egypt's Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Ahmed Abu Zeid, the meeting was held in the Eritrean capital, Asmara, ahead of Shoukry's scheduled meeting with Eritrean President Isaias Afwerki.

The meeting touched on ways to deal with the current situation in the Horn of Africa region, Abu Zeid said.

Shoukry stressed to Saleh that Egypt observes closely the developments in the region and stressed Egypt’s full support for all efforts to promote regional peace and security. 

Furthermore, both ministers discussed the current situation in Sudan. Shoukry highlighted the crucial role of Sudan's neighbours in dealing with the crisis and the possibility of reaching a settlement that guarantees the preservation of the unity, safety and stability of Sudan and its people.

For his part, the Eritrean foreign minister expressed interest in continuing consultations with the Egyptian side on various issues related to the African continent, especially the Horn of Africa.

Moreover, the two officials discussed the situation in Gaza, with Shoukry stressing the need to reach an immediate and comprehensive ceasefire there.

Shoukry also stressed the importance of ensuring that the people in Gaza access humanitarian aid and pointed out the dangers of expanding the conflict in the region.

The Egyptian foreign minister arrived in Asmara early on Thursday to deliver a message from Egypt's President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi to Eritria's President Isaias Afwerki.

According to Abu Zeid, El-Sisi's message to Afwerki discusses enhancing relations between the two countries and regional developments of mutual interest.
