Shoukry hands over message from Sisi to his Eritrean counterpart

Egypt's Minister of Foreign Affairs Sameh Shoukry delivered on Thursday a letter from President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi to the Eritrean President Isaias Afwerki, during his current visit to the Eritrean capital Asmara.

The message focused on the bilateral relations between both countries and ways to further develop and strengthen them across all fields, according to the Egyptian foreign ministry's official statement.

Shoukry and Afwerki discussed in a meeting the latest developments in the African continent, especially the Horn of Africa region, and the current situation in Somalia and Sudan, and its impact on regional stability.

Minister Shoukry stressed Cairo's keenness to support factors of stability, security, and peace in the region, which requires strengthening regional cooperation and coordination mechanisms.

Furthermore, the meeting touched on the challenges related to the security of the Red Sea, where Shoukry stressed the importance of strengthening cooperation between the bordering countries, considering their mutual interest in the stability of the region and the safety of maritime navigation.

Shoukry reiterated Egypt's warnings about the risks of the conflict widening in the region, as a result of the Israeli war on the strip, according to Ambassador Ahmed Abu-Zeid, the Egyptian foreign ministry’s spokesperson.

In this regard, Shoukry highlighted Egypt’s efforts and communications at all levels to stop the unjust attacks against the Palestinian people and facilitate the entry of humanitarian aid into the strip.

He further reaffirmed Egypt's complete rejection of any attempts to displace the Palestinians in the strip out of their lands, considering any measures to liquidate the Palestinian cause desperate attempts.

Early Thursday, Shoukry held a meeting with his Eritrean counterpart Osman Saleh, where they discussed the latest regional developments, especially the situations in the Horn of Africa region and Sudan.
