Salah sustained a hamstring injury during Egypt's 2-2 draw with Ghana in a Nations Cup Group stage game on Thursday, and Egypt's doctor had said that the Liverpool star needs approximately one week of treatment.

"After further examinations and discussions between the medical staff and its counterpart at Liverpool, it was decided that the player will return to England after Cape Verde's game tomorrow to complete his rehabilitation," read a statement on the (EFA) Facebook account.

The EFA added that Salah would return to join the team if it qualifies to the semi-finals.

Earlier on Sunday Liverpool coach Jurgen Klopp revealed that they are talking with Egypt to bring Salah back to England to complete his rehabilitation.

“That’s the plan. If that’s already decided 100 percent, I don’t know,” Klopp told reporters after Liverpool’s game against Bournemouth.

“If he cannot [play], however long he’s out, I think probably everybody sees it makes sense that he does the rehab with us – or with our people.

“That’s the plan. But if that’s now written in stone already, I don’t know.

“[I spoke to him] directly after, pretty much the night when it happened.

“Since then he’s in contact with our doctor and the doc tells me the news. I think he will be back, but we wait.”

“I’m not a doctor. I would say, if Egypt qualifies for the final, if he is fit before the final then probably yes,” he said.

“Why not? That’s clear, it’s the tournament.”

Egypt are facing a must-win situation against Cape Verde on Monday to secure a spot in the round of 16.

The Pharaohs sit in second place in their group with two points from two games, trailing group leaders Cape Verde by four points.
