Last week, under the auspices of Egyptian Minister of Culture Nevine El-Kelany, the NOUH launched its fourth and latest publication on the historic district of Heliopolis. The publication is part of the NOUH series, titled The Memory of the City initiative. The series of books documents the socio-culture, architecture, and history of districts like Zamalek, Garden City, Siwa Oasis, and Heliopolis.

The charming 116-year-old district of Heliopolis (Sun City) was the brainchild of Baron Edouard Empain (1852-1929), a Belgian investor who came to Egypt at the end of the 19th century. His dream blossomed into a beautiful reality that stood the test of time with its charming architectural gems and unique cosmopolitan essence.

The celebration was held at the premises of Hanager Cinema, Opera House. Mohamed Abu-Seida, CEO of NOUH; Khalid Zakaria Al-Adly, professor of urban planning and former Giza governor; Mary Kupelian, Armenian professor of tourism; and Galal Ebada, professor of architecture were among those who attended. The talk was moderated by Seif Abul-Naga, head of Egyptian Architects NGO.

The book is a unique reference to Heliopolis because it is among the few, if not the only one, in the Arabic language. It also highlights the two subprojects of NOUH, titled Lived Here and The Story of a Street, to document the social memory of the city. NOUH provides a free soft copy of the book on its official website; the book is also sold at the Supreme Council of Culture's bookstore.
