Zamalek defender Ahmed Fatouh
The left-back suffered a muscular injury that forced him off the field just before the start of the second half in Egypt's defeat against DR Congo during the knockout stage of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON 2023) last Sunday. Initial reports suggested it was only a hamstring strain.
However, Zamalek board member Ahmed Soliman confirmed that the 25-year-old defender suffered a hamstring tear and will be out of action for approximately six weeks.
"Unfortunately, Fatouh will be out for a month and a half, which is a huge setback for the club," Soliman told MBC Masr TV channel.
Previously, Fatouh had faced suspension by the Zamalek management after leaving the team's camp without permission, just a day before a league game against ZED FC last November. This incident sparked reports that he was considering leaving the Egyptian powerhouse.
However, Fatouh issued an apology and subsequently signed a new three-year contract, ensuring his stay at Zamalek until 2027.
