In November, the White Knights parted ways with Colombian coach Juan Carlos Osorio last November due to the team's poor results, trusting their former defender Moatamed Gamal with an interim tactician position.

Gomes, 53, brings a wealth of experience to Zamalek, having managed several teams in the Primeira Liga, including Pacos de Ferreira, Uniao de Leiria, Rio Ave, Maritimo, and Chaves.

He has also worked with various teams in Hungary, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, England, and Spain.

Zamalek expressed gratitude to interim coach Gamal for his efforts with the team over the past three months.

The team currently sits in 12th place on the league table with 11 points from eight matches, trailing leaders ZED FC by eight points, with two matches in hand.

In the African Confederation Cup, the White Knights are leading Group B with 10 points after four games, having secured three wins and one draw.
