Egypt's Ministry of Culture stated that around 700,000 people flocked to the fair on Friday.
The high turnout testifies to the significance of the cultural event, stressed Minister of Culture Nevine El-Kilani.
“This year’s fair was unique in having many exceptional scenes and was able to present a diverse cultural meal that combined culture, art, literature, poetry, and other cultural paths,” El-Kilani added
The minister hoped the 2024 edition of the Cairo International Book Fair would conclude with a larger turnout than the previous edition.
In 2023, the Cairo Book Fair welcomed 3.7 million visitors within 14 days.
Under the slogan “We Create Knowledge, We Preserve Word,” the current edition of the Cairo International Book Fair kicked off on Thursday, 25 January.
Held at the Egypt International Exhibition Centre in New Cairo, the book fair hosts 1,200 publishing houses from 70 countries.
The Fair was first inaugurated in 1969; it remains one of the world's largest book fairs and the oldest in the Arab world.
From 1984 to 2019, the fair was held at the Cairo International Fair Zone in Nasr City before it relocated in 2020 to the more spacious and well-equipped Exhibition Centre in New Cairo.
