Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has revealed that Egyptian winger Mohamed Salah will be absent from Saturday's Premier League match against Burnley, but he remains hopeful that the Egyptian international could resume training next week.

The 31-year-old suffered a hamstring injury just before halftime in Egypt's second group-stage match against Ghana during the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON 2023) on 18 January and was forced to leave the field limping.

Despite his early return to Anfield for an intensive rehabilitation program, Salah missed Liverpool's crucial games against Chelsea and Arsenal, and he will definitely be sidelined for the Burnley clash as well.

“He’s going in the right direction and we hope, but we don’t know, that he will be part of training next week but we will see,” Jurgen Klopp said at his pre-match press conference.

“He is going through all the paces now and it looks positive. It’s either next week or the week after. If you ask him, it’s next week,” the German tactician added.

Salah has once again been in sensational form for Liverpool, scoring 24 goals and providing 15 assists throughout the calendar year. He was the only player in Europe's 'big five' leagues to surpass the 15-goal and 15-assist mark in 2023.

Additionally, the Egyptian winger became the first Premier League player since Arsenal legend Thierry Henry in 2003 to achieve 15+ goals and assists in a calendar year.
