CAF extended invitations to former African football stars, of which Hassan is one, to attend the AFCON final between hosts Cote d'Ivoire and Nigeria on Sunday.

Expressing his hopes for progress in African football, Hassan stated at the press conference: "I hope to see further advancements in African football, as it boasts talented players who have a significant impact on European football."

Last week, the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) appointed Hassan, a former Egypt striker, as the new national team coach, replacing Portuguese tactician Rui Vitoria.

"I consider myself fortunate to have been born in a great country like Egypt, representing it in seven Africa Cup of Nations editions and winning three titles," added the newly appointed coach.

The decision to replace Vitoria with Hassan followed Egypt's disappointing performance in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

The seven-time African champions failed to secure a single victory throughout the tournament and were eliminated in the round of 16 after a penalty shootout loss to DR Congo.

"I will give my utmost to achieve positive outcomes in the upcoming period with the Egypt national team," Hassan vowed.

As a former star player for Ahly and Zamalek, Hassan brings a wealth of experience to the national team.

The 57-year-old has managed various clubs in Egypt, including Zamalek, Pyramids FC, Ismaily, Masry, and has also guided the Jordan national team.

With three Africa Cup of Nations titles under his belt, Hossam Hassan holds the record for the Pharaohs' all-time leading goal scorer, having netted 68 goals.
