According to a statement issued by the embassy, General Al-Obaidi was the Director of the Military Manufacturing Department at the Ministry of Defense.
The embassy added that it assigned specialists the task of conducting field investigations and communicating with relevant Egyptian security authorities to ascertain the truth behind this painful incident; it further emphasized that it closely monitors the results of the investigations and forensic examinations.
Moreover, the embassy requested all media outlets to ensure the accuracy of their reports and ignore rumours until the authorities released the final results of their investigation.
No official details have been released yet regarding the case, as the Egyptian Interior Ministry and Public Prosecution have issued no statements.
