African Union endorses Egypt’s Khaled El-Enany’s bid for UNESCO Director-General’s position
Egypt welcomed the African Union's decision to endorse the candidacy of Egypt's nominee for the position of Director-General of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), Dr Khaled El-Enany, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

"Egypt views this endorsement as crucial for its candidate, especially after the Ministerial Council of the Arab League approved the endorsement of El-Enany last year," the statement said, adding that Egypt's candidate hence enjoys the support of the Arab and African bloc.
In April, Egypt announced that it nominated former minister of tourism and antiquities Khaled El-Enany for the post of director-general of UNESCO.
The election will take place in the last quarter of 2025.
