Telecom Egypt, a leading communications and information technology services provider, announced on Tuesday a strategic partnership with Huawei at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2024 for the deployment of a cutting-edge fifth-generation (5G) network.

Telecom Egypt,

Telecom Egypt, the biggest state-owned telecom service operator in the country, secured in January a license to provide 5G mobile phone services from the National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (NTRA).

The license is valued at $150 million and runs for a non-renewable period of 15 years. It was initially anticipated to be worth $500 million.

This collaboration reinforces Telecom Egypt's steadfast commitment to enhancing the digital experience for its customers by offering innovative solutions and services powered by 5G technology.

The next-generation 5G network, with its unprecedented internet speed and wider bandwidth, promises a significant boost to user experiences. It delivers lower latency, ensuring seamless communication even during periods of high demand.

The deployment of 5G networks will empower Telecom Egypt to provide groundbreaking solutions and services across various sectors, including manufacturing, telehealth, education, and Internet of Things (IoT) applications that require real-time decision-making capabilities.

Through this partnership, Huawei will offer 5G wireless, 5G service-oriented core, and 5G-ready transport network technologies. These cutting-edge solutions will facilitate the smooth adoption of 5G technology, unlocking its full potential.

Huawei has already established 5G sites in key areas throughout Egypt, leveraging its most advanced wireless technologies to achieve maximum data transfer rates (throughput) based on the available spectrum.

Mohamed Nasr, managing director and CEO of Telecom Egypt, emphasized the importance of 5G as a catalyst for the next generation of broadband and IoT services.

He stated that the high data rates and low latency provided by 5G technology enable customers to enjoy new and diverse digital experiences while driving efficiency and productivity across various sectors in Egypt.

Nasr also highlighted the immense potential of future technologies like AI, robotics, gaming, augmented reality (AR), and virtual reality (VR) that will be further enhanced by the introduction of 5G, enriching the overall digital experience for all customers.

Jim Liu, CEO of Huawei Egypt, expressed the long-standing partnership between Telecom Egypt and Huawei, spanning over a decade, with a shared objective of introducing advanced technologies and services to the Egyptian market.

Liu reaffirmed Huawei's commitment to supporting Egypt in its digital transformation journey. He emphasized that this collaboration would significantly accelerate the transformation, leveraging the vast potential of 5G to improve broadband experiences, launch new services, and explore opportunities in the business-to-business (B2B) markets.

With this strategic partnership, Telecom Egypt and Huawei are poised to revolutionize Egypt's telecommunications landscape, ushering in a new era of connectivity and innovation through the power of 5G technology.
