Egypt hopes Lebanese presidential election will be held after 16-month vacancy

Egypt is keen on supporting efforts to elect a new president for Lebanon after 16 months of vacancy, Ambassador to Lebanon Alaa Moussa said.

This came during a meeting he had along with ambassadors of Saudi Arabia, France, the US, and Qatar with caretaker Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati.

On its official Facebook page, Egypt's Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the five-member committee did not and will not interfere in putting forward specific names for the presidency of Lebanon, as this is exclusively the role of the Lebanese parliament.

For his part, the Lebanese premier expressed his appreciation for the sincere efforts of the five countries to support Lebanon and help it face the various challenges and current circumstances.
