Sisi discusses Egypt efforts to end Gaza war with Armenian PM Pashinyan

President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi received Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan on Tuesday at Ittihadiyah Palace, where he briefed the PM on Egypt’s effort to achieve peace in the region.

During the meeting, El-Sisi reviewed Egypt’s efforts to achieve an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, calm the situation in the West Bank, and facilitate the establishment of a Palestinian state on 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital. 

In a joint press conference following the meeting, the President emphasized Egypt’s support for all initiatives aimed at achieving peace and stability in the region.

Pashinyan stated that his country emphasizes the importance of bringing peace to the region.

"We appreciate Egypt's balanced and constructive positions in the region and the world," he added.

During the meeting, both sides also affirmed the eagerness to boost trade and investment.

In 2022, the trade volume between Egypt and Armenia increased to $44.6 million, up from $22.8 million in 2021, according to the Armenian embassy in Egypt.

They aim to boost this exchange by exploring opportunities for collaboration in the information technology, artificial intelligence, food, and pharmaceutical sectors, as well as revitalizing the role of the Joint Committee for Economic, Scientific, and Technical Cooperation and the Businessmen's Forum.

On Tuesday, El-Sisi reiterated to PM Pashinyan Egypt’s readiness to share its expertise in infrastructure, construction, transportation, and energy generation. 

They also explored ways to benefit from the expertise of Armenian companies in AI.

This year marks the 30th anniversary of diplomatic ties between Egypt and Armenia. 

During his two-day visit, the Armenian PM will also meet with his Egyptian counterpart Mostafa Madbouly, Pope Tawadros II, and Grand Imam of Al-Azhar Sheikh Ahmed El-Tayyeb 

Pashinyan also plans to visit the federations of Egyptian industry and chambers of commerce, where he will meet Egyptian businessmen.
